Betadine® vaginal suppositories
Povidone-iodine 200 mg (equivalent to 20 mg available iodine)
Gynecological antiinfectives and antiseptics
Betadine vaginal suppositories as an active agent contain povidone iodine, a complex compound of polyvinilpyrrolidone and iodine. This complex is iodophor, in which polyvinilpyrrolidone acts as iodine carrier. In contact with mucous membrane, iodine is released slowly from the complex and has a potent antimicrobial and bactericidal (gram-positive and gram negative bacteria), virucidal, fungicidal (Candida Albicans) and protozoacidal (Trihomonas vaginalis) effect.
Betadine vaginal suppositories are indicated for symptomatic relief of vaginal irritation, itching and sensitivity (unspecific vaginitis), vaginitis due to mixed infection, vaginitis caused by Candida albicans and Trichomonas vaginalis.
